Cramer is a sweet and loving and gentle boy who was left behind when his family moved. An ARG volunteer recently visited Cramer and had this story to tell: >>>>>
"I sat with this boy in his inside raised run for quite a while this afternoon. At first, he sat in the back of the run on a blankie, not reacting to me at all, tolerating petting and touching but not seeking it out. After about ten minutes, a big black Lab walked by. The Lab was on lead and on the way back to his run with a vet tech, but he paused on the way to sniff my leg. The Lab, not the vet tech. ...
Well. Cramer lifted his ears, then his head, then barked twice sharply. ...
Busted! Cramer was not as apathetic as he appeared and it was fairly clear that inferior dogs were not allowed to interrupt his pat session.

Once busted, Cramer came out of his shell. In short order, he'd rolled over on his back to flirt, gently mouthed my hand and inched over a bit closer. Then he stood up and barked a bit then looked back for approval. He came to me to get petted. ...
Five years dropped off this dog in the space of a few minutes. I heard it, heard it as loudly as though he'd spoken English: "I'm an Airedale and I'm going to live!" I thought I would cry. There was a fire in those eyes that had earlier refused to meet mine and his bony tailed wagged. Yes, he decided to live. He did." >>>>>
Cramer is quite a boy. Given the chance, he'd shower his love and affection on a new family. He loves people and attention. He is used to living with dogs and cats and has done well with children in their young teens.
Cramer came in very thin and matted and he's been shaved and washed and is getting yummy high calorie food. His vet is addressing a few issues from the hard life he's been living.

Berkley is a happy, playful boy who loves attention. He is a wonderful house dog and even likes to get in the human bed and snooze. When you snuggle him, he gives gentle love kisses in return. True to the Airedale breed, Berkley is mischievous, active, and playful. He is fit, trim and a very fine dog. His beautiful coat is a soft wheat and he always has a big smile on his face. This sweet, boy has lots of energy and will do well with consistent obedience training. "Berk" is mister snoopy and acts like a puppy getting into things like purses looking for treats. Berkley boards at a local kennel and has bonded happily with everyone there, but he wonders when his forever people will come for him. Visitors say he’s so sweet and just adores attention, love and pets. Berkley wants so much to be with his own people. He craves attention and is so willing and eager to please. I'm Will, a 6-year-old (birth date is 10-19-03) neutered male purebred airedale terrier. My owner has had some health issues which have made it difficult for her to care for me. I'm a really good boy -- very active and playful. And terribly smart, so my foster mom says. I'm up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and housebroken. I do well with other dogs as long as they are playful and sweet. I was born with a shallow socket on my right hip. I'm playful and active and not bothered at all by my hip. I'll do best in a home with a person who has previous airedale experience and who understands that I'm headstrong and intelligent and need a good fence. I'm a really sweet guy who just happens to also be a terrier. :-)
Update - I am the foster mom of Will. Will is a great walking companion! He is a dream on a walk and can easily walk for miles each day. If he wears his prong collar he is easy. He can really book it! He sees dogs but besides a friendly excitement, he is ready to keep on the walk. He likes all people that he sees on his walks. He is a great car rider.
Will is very strong 'willed' is the only characteristic that needs to be noted for Will. He has a beautiful tail and it is properly cropped and curved. His head is perfect and his expressions are priceless.
Update : Will is enrolled in Basic Obedience. He is a star in class! So far he has learned Sit. He has to sit for dinner, sit before going in or out of a door, sit to be greeted. He can't wait for the next class to learn more things!
Update : Will is fabulous with children! He is also a big cuddler - watch out or he will sneak his way into your lap and become a little lap dog. He just wants to be with his people.

Boone is a big boy at nearly 80lbs. He is tall and leggy, not heavy at all. Boone is grateful to be in ARG care and he will need to be treated for heartworms as his next step in life. He loves kids and even small dogs - such a good boy. Boone walks well on a leash and stays in a kennel during the day.
Update 7/11/10 Boone is being treated for heartworm in GA, will need to be kept quiet for 30 days post-treatment. In just a few days, he is coming out of his shell, and that true Airedale spirit is starting to emerge.
